Link Jira issues

Link a Jira issue, or any tracker's link, to an element, a view, a finding or the whole diagram, and see its live status next to the design.

A design and the work that delivers it belong together. Link the Jira issue that builds a container, the change request that opens a firewall flow, or the ticket that fixes a finding: reviewers see where the work stands without leaving the diagram.

Before you start

  • The diagram is saved in your library, and you can edit it.
  • For live statuses, your organisation's Jira Cloud site must be connected to iyedy. Without it, links to Jira keys still work and open in Jira; they show no status. To connect Jira, an owner writes to support@iyedy.com.
  1. Select what the issue is about

    On the canvas, select one element, relationship or deployment node. Select nothing to link the view on screen.

  2. Open the link dialog

    In the Inspector (Ctrl I), the Work items section lists what is already linked. Select Link work item…. From the command palette (Ctrl K), Link the selection to a work item… does the same.

  3. Paste the key or the link

    In Jira key or link, paste a Jira key such as CLM-212, the address of a Jira issue, or any https link. For a link that is not a Jira issue, you can add a Title (optional). Then select Link.

    A message says the key is linked to the element, and the Inspector's Work items section shows it, with its status when Jira is connected.

Link a finding or a review thread

In the review panel, select a finding: it gains Link work item…. Use it to tie the finding to the ticket that fixes it.

From the command palette, run Work items (Jira and links)…. The sheet groups every link by what it hangs on (the whole diagram, views, elements, relationships, findings, decisions, review threads), with:

  • for a Jira issue, its summary, status, type and assignee, and Open;
  • a filter by key, status or name, and Refresh;
  • Remove link on each row, if you can edit the diagram.

Jira statuses are refreshed every 2 minutes.

For owners: Jira settings

Owners and security administrators open Integrations settings (embeds, Jira)… from the command palette. In the Jira part:

  • Show Jira statuses on work-item links turns statuses on or off for the organisation;
  • Jira projects that may be linked narrows the keys members may link (empty: every project the connection can read);
  • Test connection says which Jira account iyedy connects as.
Members see what the connection sees

Statuses come through one Jira account for the whole organisation. Members see the summary, status, type, priority and assignee that this account may see, for the projects you allow. Use an account that can browse only the projects your architects link to.

Limits

  • 500 links at most per diagram.
  • Statuses come from Jira Cloud. A link to another tracker opens, without a status.
  • A link belongs to its diagram: when the diagram is deleted, its links go with it.

If it doesn't work

“Not a Jira key or an https link.”

A Jira key is a project key, a hyphen and a number, such as CLM-212. Anything else must be a full address starting with https://.

“That Jira project is not linked by your organisation.”

Your organisation allows only some Jira projects. Ask an owner to add the project in the Jira settings.

A Jira link shows “Status unavailable”

The reason follows the message. “Jira is not connected for your organisation”: links work without statuses until Jira is connected. “Jira refused the connection” or “Jira did not answer”: an owner checks the connection with Test connection. “Jira does not know this issue”: the key is wrong, or the connection's account cannot see it.

“Keep the diagram in the library to link work items.”

Links hang on diagrams of your library. Keep a copy of the diagram first.
