Diagrams
Create diagrams, draw their elements and relationships, add views, keep versions and present them. One model per diagram, every view drawn from it.
Start here
A diagram in iyedy is not one drawing: it is one model of your system, and every view is drawn from it. Read this first, then pick a task below.
One model, many views
Create a diagram
Diagrams
Find and organise diagrams
Search the Library, filter it, star the diagrams you use most, clean up the ones you do not, and restore a diagram from the trash.
View types
The twelve view types of iyedy, what each one shows, what it needs in the model and whether iyedy draws it for you.
Add a view
Add a view of a chosen type to your diagram, name it, then rename, duplicate, reorder, hide or delete views from the Views list.
Add elements and relationships
Place elements on the canvas, describe them in the Inspector, connect them with relationships and say what kind each one is.
Shapes and official logos
Find a shape or a cloud service in the shape shelf, set an element's logo, choose how a view shows logos, and upload your own.
Layers, annotations and grid
Choose what a view draws on top of its content, add notes to a view, and use the grid references and the minimap.
The title block
The block in the corner of every sheet says what the drawing is, which revision, who made it, its status and its classification, as on a technical drawing.
Draw a process in BPMN
Add a business process to your diagram with the Assistant, open its BPMN view, and keep it next to the architecture that runs it.
Draw a sequence or dynamic view
Add a scenario with the Assistant, read it as a Sequence view and as a Dynamic view, and trace it step by step on your other views.
Versions and states
Save and restore versions
Save a named version to mark a milestone, compare any version with the current one, and restore an earlier state without losing today's.
Baseline, transition and target
A diagram can hold several states of the same architecture, today's, the steps on the way and the target, and iyedy works out what changes between them.
Compare states and plan a roadmap
Show a view in one state compared with another, read the gap between two states and the work that delivers it, and draw the roadmap on a time axis.
Present a diagram
Show your views full screen, one after the other, revealing each view step by step, with a laser pointer, a blank screen and speaker notes.
