Diagram troubleshooting
What to do when you cannot create, edit, save, draw, version or present a diagram, symptom by symptom, with the app's own messages.

Creating and editing
“View only. You can browse, present, export and copy this drawing.”
Why it happens. You can read this diagram but not change it: you were invited to view or comment, or your role in the workspace is Viewer or Commenter.
Fix it. Select Request edit access if the banner offers it, or ask the diagram's owner. Meanwhile you can still present, export and copy it.
“Read-only: your plan keeps a limited number of diagrams editable.”
Why it happens. On Free you keep 5 diagrams you can edit. Above that, the others stay readable.
Fix it. Move diagrams you no longer use to the trash, or change your plan. See Find and organise diagrams.
“Your plan allows one editor on this diagram. Upgrade to edit together.”
Why it happens. On Free, people you invite view and comment; they never edit. Pro lets one invited person edit.
Fix it. Keep editing alone, or change your plan. See Share a diagram.
“Read-only: this diagram is locked.”
Why it happens. The diagram is locked. An approved diagram, for example, stays frozen until someone starts the next revision.
Fix it. Ask the diagram's owner. For an approved diagram, start the next revision from its review.
“Read-only: the subscription has lapsed. Everyone can still read and export.”
Why it happens. The organisation's subscription ended. Nothing is deleted.
Fix it. An owner or a billing admin of the organisation resubscribes. See Billing troubleshooting.
“The trial has ended: choose a plan to keep editing. Everything stays readable and exportable.”
Why it happens. The trial period is over.
Fix it. Choose a plan to edit again. Your diagrams stay readable and exportable meanwhile.
Saving
“This diagram is too large to save…”
Why it happens. The diagram passed the size the library takes for one diagram. The message gives its size and the limit.
Fix it. Split it in two diagrams, for example one per system, or remove content you do not need, such as large uploaded images.
“Your library is full. Delete old diagrams or versions.”
Why it happens. The library reached its storage. Old diagrams and their versions take room.
Fix it. Move diagrams you no longer need to the trash, then delete them forever from the trash. iyedy also clears old automatic versions first when the library is nearly full.
“Another save is in progress. Try again in a moment.”
Why it happens. A save was still running when you asked for another one, for example a named version right after a big change.
Fix it. Wait a few seconds and try again.
Other “Not saved” messages

Drawing
“Ask the Assistant to add to sequence views.”
Why it happens. Sequence and BPMN views draw a scenario or a process: you cannot place shapes on them.
Fix it. Describe the change to the Assistant (Ctrl J). See Draw a sequence or dynamic view and Draw a process in BPMN.
“These two cannot be connected in this view.”
Why it happens. The view does not take that relationship, for example between two zones.
Fix it. Connect the elements inside the zones, or draw the relationship in a view that shows both elements.
“Editing: Alex Morgan” shows on an element
Why it happens. Someone else is changing that element now.
Fix it. Wait until they are done, or work on another part of the view. Their changes reach you as they save.
“Names under 9 px”
Why it happens. At this zoom the names would be too small to read, so iyedy hides the descriptions.
Fix it. Select Enlarge for reading, or zoom in with Ctrl =.
Views and versions
“This view is not in this version. Choose another view, or go back to the current version.”
Why it happens. You are looking at an earlier version, made before this view existed.
Fix it. Choose another view, or select Back to current in the History panel.
“Use the + button of the VIEWS list to add a view.”
Why it happens. The left panel is closed or the Views list is not on screen.
Fix it. Press Ctrl B to open the left panel, then select + at the head of the Views list. See Add a view.
“Re-layout failed.”
Why it happens. The automatic layout could not place this view, often because of a very large view.
Fix it. Undo with Ctrl Z, then re-lay out a selection instead of the whole view (Re-layout selection).
