Ask questions about a diagram

Ask the Assistant about the diagram you have open, in your own words. Each answer cites the elements, views and findings it relied on, so you can check it on the canvas, and says plainly when the diagram does not state something.

Before you start

  • A diagram you can open. Reading access is enough to ask questions in your personal workspace; in an organisation, the workspace's AI settings decide.
  • Questions answered in your browser are free. Questions that need the AI use credits: see How the Assistant uses credits.

Ask a question

  1. Choose what the question is about

Select an element, a few elements or nothing. With a selection, the box reads, for example, Ask about Claims API…

  2. Ask in your words

Press Ctrl J and type your question:

“What happens to claim submission if the message broker is down?”
  3. Check the answer against the diagram

Names in the answer are citations: show on canvas selects the element, open the view opens the view it comes from. What the diagram does not say is listed under Not stated in the diagram.

Every element the answer names can be shown on the canvas, and anything it assumed is listed as not stated.

What a question reads

The app says it this way: a question reads the selection and one step around it, or the whole diagram when nothing is selected (in summary when it is large, keeping the elements you name).

  • Say in the whole diagram to read everything, or this view to read the open view.
  • Only Research reads your library: ask about other diagrams with “Which of my diagrams use the Claims API?”
  • To see what went with your last question, open What was sent under the panel's ⋯ menu. See What the Assistant reads.

Questions that work well

You want to know Ask
Impact “What depends on the Claims database?”
A flow “Walk me through a claim from the mobile app to the fraud check.”
Gaps “Which containers have no stated technology?”
Risks “Where are the single points of failure in this view?”
Change Use Changes since… in the Assistant menu to compare with a saved version.

Some of these are answered without AI, in your browser: What depends on…?, Describe this view and the changes since a version. Their cards are tagged Instant. See Instant answers, free and without AI.

Keep the conversation going

  • After an answer, the box reads Ask a follow-up, or describe a change. The Assistant remembers the conversation on this diagram.
  • Pin a sentence of an answer to keep it in mind for later questions on this diagram. See Conversations and retention.
  • How I got this on a longer answer lists what it read and did.

Coming soonA question always gets an answer, not a proposal.

Until then, a question may come back with a change proposal. Nothing is applied: select Discard on it, or ask again starting with Explain or What.

If it doesn't work

“Some statements could not be checked against the model.”

Part of the answer cites nothing in the diagram. Treat it as an opinion: ask for the elements it relies on, or add the missing facts to the model.

The answer ignores another diagram

A question reads the diagram you have open. Ask a research question that names your library (Which of my diagrams…), or open the other diagram.

“This diagram is classified Restricted: the assistant does not read it.”

The diagram is classified above what the Assistant may read. See What the Assistant reads.

More symptoms: Assistant troubleshooting.
