Ask a guest for an opinion

A second pair of eyes before you sign off: ask a colleague, a client or a friend to read the version and comment until a date you choose. They answer In favour, In favour with a condition or Changes requested. Their opinion is recorded, never counted: the sign-off stays yours.

Before you start

  • A diagram in My diagrams that you own, at the version you want an opinion on.
  • The person's e-mail address. If they have no access yet, iyedy sends them an invitation first; once they accept it, you ask for their opinion. See Share a diagram.
  • Classification. If the diagram is classified above Internal, iyedy reminds you that the person will be able to read it.

Ask for the opinion

  1. Open the sign-off

Open the diagram, then in the Share menu select Open comments and sign-off, and choose the Sign-off part.

  2. Start the request

Select Ask for an opinion…. The dialog Ask for an opinion opens. The palette has the same command: press Ctrl K and type opinion.

  3. Choose the person

In Person, type a name or an e-mail address. The people who have access show in the list. For someone new, type their address: iyedy says Invitation sent to alex.morgan@claims.example. Once accepted, ask for the opinion here. Come back to this step once they have accepted.

  4. Set the date and send

In Can comment until, choose the last day they can comment. Select Ask for the opinion. If the diagram is above Internal, read the warning and select Ask anyway only if you may show it to them.

iyedy says Opinion asked of Alex Morgan. In the sign-off, their line reads Opinion expected. They are told that you asked for their opinion on this version.

What happens next

  • They answer In favour, In favour with a condition or Changes requested, and may comment on elements and views. Their opinion shows in the history and in the sign-off pack, never under Approved by.
  • Changes requested moves the version to the Changes requested stamp. Change the diagram as asked, then save a new version; you still sign off yourself.
  • You change the diagram meanwhile. They give their opinion on the version you asked about, and iyedy tells you that your sign-off covers the newer one.
  • You sign off when you decide. Waiting for their answer is optional. See Sign off your own version.

Remind or withdraw

On the person's line, Remind reminds them of your request. Withdraw the request ends it: they can no longer comment on the diagram. When their date passes without an answer, the line reads Access expired.

If it doesn't work

“This person has no access yet: invite them first with Share.”

Share the diagram with them first, or type their e-mail address in Person so that iyedy invites them. Ask for the opinion once they have accepted.

“… has not accepted the invitation yet.”

The invitation is still waiting. Ask them to open the e-mail and accept it; the link stays valid until the date it gives.

“Ask a person, not a role or a group.”

On your own, an opinion is asked of one person at a time. Ask each person separately.
