Shapes and official logos

The shape shelf holds iyedy's shapes and a catalogue of products and cloud services with their official logos: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes and common technologies. Pick a service and the element comes with its kind, its technology and its logo.

Before you start

A diagram you can edit, open on the view where the shape belongs. Network shapes and zones such as a region or a subnet go on a Deployment view.

Add a shape or a service

  1. Open the shelf

On the left of the canvas, select Shapes and official logos. The flyout lists iyedy's shapes by group, and at the top In this diagram, recent and starred.

  2. Search a product

Type in the search box, Search AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, technologies…, for example Cosmos DB, Lambda or PostgreSQL. Results come as shapes and services.

  3. Place it

Select a result. The element arrives with its kind, its technology and the service's logo. For the Claims Platform, Azure API Management gives the API gateway its logo.

Check your work. The element on the sheet shows the product's logo, and the product's name beside it.

Before you add elements, Family for new elements in the shelf sets the provider of what you place next: none, AZR, AWS, GCP, DC (on premises) or EXT (external or SaaS).

Change an element's logo

Select the element and open the Inspector (Ctrl I). Select its Icon to open Choose an icon, then Search logos. Two choices stand apart:

  • Auto: iyedy picks a logo from the element's family, kind, technology and name;
  • Always the iyedy glyph: no logo, the neutral glyph of the kind.

An element's own choice wins over the view's and the app's.

Choose how views show logos

  • For one view: open its layers (Layers of this view…) and set Logos to Auto, Placed (only the logos placed on elements), Official or Neutral. The choice is saved with the view, so its exports show the same.
  • For you, everywhere: show the menu bar with F10, open View, then Default icons: Auto: logo when one matches, Only the logos you place, Official cloud icons only or Neutral glyphs only.
Logos as their makers publish them

Logos are shown as published, always next to the product name. They stay the trademarks of their owners: see Trademarks and, in the app, Trademarks and licences in the Help menu.

Upload your own image or logo

  1. Open Upload

Press Ctrl K and run Upload image or logo…. The file can be PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP or SVG; SVG files are cleaned of scripts and external references.

  2. Say what it is and your right to use it

Choose what it is, A logo (a product, vendor or service) or A picture. Under On what basis may you use it? pick We made it, Licensed to us (vendor brand kit, purchased), Used with the owner’s permission or Public domain, then tick I am responsible for having the right to use this image in our diagrams.

  3. Upload it

Select Upload. iyedy says where to find it: in the shapes search and in the logo picker.

Images and shape libraries… lists your uploads and gathers logos and patterns in shape libraries; in an organisation, owners and workspace admins curate the organisation's libraries.

If it doesn't work

“… is an icon, not a shape: choose it as an element's icon in the Inspector.”

Some catalogue entries are logos only. Add an element first, then set that logo in the Inspector's Icon.

A shape says “deployment views only”

Load balancers, firewalls, DNS, CDN, VPN and zones such as a region, a VNet or a subnet belong in a Deployment view. Open the environment's Deployment view and place it there.
