Save and restore versions

iyedy saves your diagram as you work and keeps versions on the way. Name a version to mark a milestone, such as the one you send for review; compare or restore any version from the History panel. A restore never loses work: the state before it is kept as a version too.

Before you start

  • A diagram in your library that you can edit. A copy of the sample works once you keep it: Keep a copy of the sample first: versions live in the library.
  • To restore, you need edit rights on the diagram. Anyone who can open it can look at its history.

Save a named version

  1. Save it

Press Ctrl S, or run Save named version… from the palette (Ctrl K). iyedy saves the diagram and records a named version, Version A, then Version B, and so on. The message Saved a named version offers Show history.

  2. Or give it a name

Open the History panel with Ctrl Shift H (Show history) and select Name this version…. In Version name, type Before the architecture review and select Save.

Check your work. The History panel lists the new version at the top, with its name, your name and the time.

Compare with the current version

  1. Open the History panel

Press Ctrl Shift H. The panel lists the Versions of Claims Platform, newest first; the version you are working on says Current version.

  2. Compare

Point at an earlier version and select Compare with Version A. The panel counts what was added, removed, changed and moved since then. Select Compare on the canvas to see the changes marked on the drawing, and Close the comparison when you are done.

  3. Or look at it

Select a version's title to show it on the canvas, read-only, under a banner Viewing Version A. Back to current returns to your work.

Restore an earlier state

  1. Choose the version

In the History panel, point at the version and select Restore.

  2. Read what will change, then confirm

iyedy asks Restore Version A? and says what the restore does, for example that it restores 2 removed objects and removes 3 added since. Confirm.

Check your work. iyedy says Restored Version A. The state before is kept as a version. The canvas shows the earlier state, and the History panel has a new row for the state you left.

What makes a version

  • Your work, as you go. iyedy keeps automatic versions while you edit; older automatic versions are cleared over time. Named versions stay.
  • An applied proposal. Each time you apply a proposal of the Assistant, the history records it, for example Proposed by the Assistant, applied by Alex Morgan, so you can compare or go back.
  • A review. Submitting a version for review, an approval or a request for changes shows on its row.
  • A restore. The state before a restore is kept as a version.
Undo first

For the last few changes, Ctrl Z and Ctrl Shift Z are faster than a restore.

How long history is kept

Free keeps 30 days of history. Pro and Pro+ keep it with no time limit. Older automatic versions are cleared over time on every plan; named versions stay. See Version history by plan.

If it doesn't work

“Keep a copy of the sample first: versions live in the library.”

You are on the sample, which is not in your library. Run Keep a copy of the sample from the palette, then save the version in the copy.

“Read-only: versions cannot be saved here.”

You can read this diagram but not change it: you are a guest, a Viewer or a Commenter, or the diagram is locked or approved. Ask its owner for edit access, or start the next revision if the diagram was approved.

“Your plan keeps a limited number of named versions per diagram. Upgrade to name more.”

Your plan limits named versions on one diagram. Change your plan, or keep working with the automatic versions.

“This version has no snapshot (it was too large to keep).”

That version is listed, but it was too large to store in full, so it cannot be shown or restored. Pick another version.
